Laura Patterson Crowned New Miss Ireland 2009.
They'll be doing a different march in Derry this weekend with a new Queen now resident in the old walled city. Laura Patterson 19, who became Miss Derry only one month ago, was crowned Miss Ireland last night at an electric night full of new talent in the luxurious surroundings of the Royal Marine Hotel in Dublin.
The show itself was huge success with the delectable Daniella Moyles and the sexy Stuart McQuitty displaying their polished presenting skills and humorous chemistry along with two of the hottest upcoming Irish bands Key West and Shane Butler who rocked the audience between costume changes.
In a tightly contested competition of beauty and brains, the law and accounting student of University Ulster edged ahead of runners up Tania Zorilla (Miss Dublin East) and Terrie McEvoy (Miss University) on the strength of her answers and shining personality.
Stephen Saleh Diva Next Door judge told us that "we have spent a lot of time with the girls on the lead up to the final and we found Laura fantastic to work with. Having spent all day since her win preparing her for what's in store for the year ahead, I think everyone else should be prepared for what's in store, she is a champion in every sense of the word."
"I am so stunned by all this, my normal sunday is so different, I sing in the choir and give sunday school lessons, but last night a whole new world has literally opened up for me, and now here I am sitting with a crown on my head! " says the delighted Derry girl.
"I have done some modeling in Northern Ireland and the Republic, but this is a whole new level. It's such a great opportunity not only for me, but to do some good work for charities. Which is close to my own heart as I have been involved in a cross community project back home." finishes the New Miss Ireland.
The Derry lass is an avid hillwalking fan, this wanderlust has led to many adventures across Europe but the most memorable is her camel trek across the Sahara Desert! Which is one way she could travel to the Miss World Final in South Africa in December. Where she will spend a month taking part in all kinds of events including the Miss World final which is viewed by two billion worldwide.
Another title winner last night was Stephanie Molloy, Miss Donegal, who won Beauty with a Purpose for her outstanding contribution in work with homless shelters and day care centres. She will focus on the charity side of Miss Ireland. "I really want to raise awareness that people can make a difference and that they should get out there and volunteer in their communities to help the less fortunate" says Stephanie.
"Obviously we are very sad to see Sinead Noonan our outgoing Miss Ireland step down. Sinead has been exceptional to work with, dedicated and decent to a fault. I expect to see a lot more of her in the years to come, and I just want to thank her for all her hard work and wish her the very best for the future." says Miss Ireland Director Krishna Naidoo.
"We also want to thank our generous sponsors Stephen's Green, He-Shi, Make Up For Ever, Talking Heads and the Royal Marine Hotel. " concludes Krishna.

Support IPPA Happy Faces Day in aid of Temple Street
SMILES ALL ROUND AS IPPA PHOTOGRAPHERS ANNOUNCE HAPPY FACES DAY
The fourth year of the PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER Association’s Charity initiative
The 2009 IPPA Happy Faces Day takes place on Wednesday 1st April and there are three Waterford professional photographers – Gerry O’Carroll, Mayor’s Walk, Keith Sullivan of Infokus Studio’s Dunmore Road, and Leo Murphy, O’Connell Street participating in the annual nationwide fundraising project organised by the Irish Professional Photographers Association benefiting Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.
This is the fourth successive year of the initiative by the Irish Professional Photographers Association in support of Irish charities and was launched by Dáithí Ó Sé, TG4’s weatherman and Lucy Kennedy, favored TV presenter.
Members of the public throughout the country are encouraged to visit their local IPPA photographer and have a professional portrait taken for just €25. As all the photographers involved are providing their services free of charge, all of this money will go towards the goal of raising €60,000 for a much needed incubator for the neo-natal unit at Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. In addition to helping raise the essential funds, everyone who participates will receive a beautifully presented portrait.
Furthermore, a selection of portrait images taken on the day will be selected and featured in a 2010 calendar and sold nationwide at €10 each with all proceeds of sales again going to contributing to the goal fund of €60,000.
This is an opportunity to help a charity, have a fun experience and create a lasting memory at the same time.
The IPPA is hoping that the public will really enjoy what this event has to offer and that people of all ages will visit the three Waterford Portrait Photographers. Gerry O’Carroll & Leo Murphy will be accepting bookings at their Studio’s while Infokus will be located at Ardkeen Stores Dunmore Road, on Saturday April 4th. Full Details regarding making your Happy Faces Day appointment are available by contacting Gerry O’Carroll (051-304050), Keith Sullivan (051-850962) and Leo Murphy (051-872539) directly.
